House of Rocks sells three different kinds of mortar in Kansas City: Quikrete mason mix Type S, Laticrete MVIS veneer mortar, and Laticrete MVIS pointing mortar. Each of these mortars have their ideal uses and work best for different types of projects.

Quikrete mason mix is an excellent general-purpose mortar for brickwork, natural stone walls, and more. Type S mortar is one of the stronger and more durable mortars available, and it is an excellent choice for most structural mortar work.

Our Laticrete MVIS veneer mortar is specially designed for veneer work. If you plan to install our natural stone veneer at your home, veneer mortar will help your installation go smoothly thanks to its increased bond strength and anti-sag properties.

Finally, Laticrete MVIS pointing mortar is a great option for pointing your mortar joints. Pointing refers to the technique used to create the external finish of mortar work that is visible between stones. It’s a necessary step both for aesthetics and protection of the interior masonry work.

When trying to figure out how much mortar you’ll need, the first step is to estimate the total area of coverage.

Our veneer mortar can cover around 28 to 33 square feet, while pointing mortar can cover around 30 to 40 square feet.

Both mortar and jointing materials are used to secure natural stone in place, but the terms generally refer to different areas. Mortar refers to material used to build up brick or stone walls, whereas jointing is used to fill in gaps in pavers of flagstones on the ground.

Mortar is designed to support much more weight than jointing or grout, since mortar will have potentially hundreds of bricks above it.
