Each of our edging stone options are different average dimensions, but there may be some variance that reflects the natural, unhewn nature of stone. If you’re looking for specific sizes though, let us know and we can snap certain rock to the dimensions you need for your project.

Our Rock and Stone
Many of our customers love turning our boulders into custom fountains and bubblers for their garden, and we’re happy to help you with this process. We offer on-site drilling service to create the holes needed for a bubbling boulder, and we also sell full bubbler kits to create the fountain yourself! Let us know if you’re interested in our drilling services and we’ll work with you to create the fountain of your dreams!
Our limestone is sourced locally directly from Kansas and Missouri! Our region contains vast quantities of limestone rock that is used across the country for aesthetics and durability. We work with several local quarries to get our limestone block.
The size and overall thickness of our slabs varies by type, but most pieces are 3 to 7 feet long and 12 to 30 inches wide. The blocks weigh on average about 150 to 165 pounds per cubic foot (width x length x thickness).
We sell a variety of sizes of limestone, and we also cut stone in-house to create smaller, lighter-weight pieces that can be used for retaining walls, hearths, and more. If you’re interested in custom-cut limestone, let us know what you need and we’ll get to work preparing your order.
In addition to our full limestone slabs, we also sell irregular shaped limestone rocks that can be used for pavers, stepping stones, accent features, and more. Visit our yard to explore our current selection of irregular limestone!
We are a material supplier only and do not do any installation work. We will deliver your order to your property but cannot help you move your limestone block into its final location. Contact us for more information.
Our wall stone in Kansas City comes in a variety of natural thicknesses and sizes, and each stone varies from piece to piece. This provides a natural, timeless look for your wall project.
If you’re interested in a more controlled appearance, we also offer wall stone with sawn tops and bottoms to provide more uniform heights.
One benefit of our wall stone is that for most varieties, you can use a dry stacking technique to build up your wall. This means that you won’t need to use any mortar or grout at all and can simply place your rocks on top of each other with no adhesives. Dry stacking works well for stones up to 3 inches in height.
For larger stones, we do recommend using mortar or grout to add stability to your wall. You can always use mortar or grout if you want for any size of stone, but dry stacking is a popular choice for many projects.
All of our stone is fully natural sedimentary rock that has developed over literally millions of years. Sedimentary rock is formed from layers of silt and sand that harden into solid rock over eons. Over this process, anything that becomes caught between these layers become fused into the rock and can often still be visible today. This includes various colored strata of different silt, pieces from other rocks, and even fossilized plants and animals!
When you receive your order, inspect your rock closely to see if you have any of these colorful and distinctive markings! This variance is part of what makes our natural wall stone so special.
Our stone edging in Kansas City comes from an array of different sedimentary rocks, such as limestone and sandstone. In addition to being both beautiful and durable, our stones come in several different colors so you can achieve the perfect look for your space.
With our delivery service, we will bring your boulder to your property and drop it off at the base of your property. For an additional fee of $175 per hour (min. 30 minutes), our driver will move your order elsewhere on your property, assuming it is in a flat, level area. Most of our boulders are palletized for transport, and we will not move the boulder off of the pallet for you, but we can move the pallet next to your installation location assuming flat, level, dry ground. Our driver has the ultimate say on where they can safely travel for drop-off. Learn more on our delivery page!
For many people, the aesthetic appeal of natural stone is reason enough to choose our stone edging in Kansas City, but there are many other reasons why customers choose the natural option. Unlike manufactured alternatives, natural stone is weather-resistant and holds up to the elements better than any other option. Even as your stone wears down or chips, inside is just more of the same beautiful stone, so its lifespan is much longer than brick or concrete. Plus, we source all our limestone and sandstone locally, so stone edging is a great way to tie your property together with the surrounding environment.
Our stone steps come in many different sizes to suit the needs of your project. Most of our stones are approximately 3 feet long, 5 to 7 inches thick, and 18 inches deep, but we can create custom-sized stone steps in Kansas City for you upon request.
One of the major benefits of natural stone steps is that they are very durable and require little to no maintenance. Even with no specialized care at all, our stone steps can last for decades. Even if your steps do start to wear down or chip, the steps are made of the same solid stone all the way through, so they will retain their natural beauty.
Natural stone steps are one of the most durable options for outdoor stairs, and last much longer than poured concrete. In addition, our stone steps are naturally anti-slip, making them a safe option for pool steps and most other environments. And of course, this is in addition to the aesthetic appeal of stone steps over concrete alternatives.
We know what you’re thinking—sure, these things sound nice, but what’s the catch? It’s easy to assume that stone steps may cost much more than poured concrete, but in fact the opposite is true. That’s right, natural, durable stone steps are actually less expensive when compared to comparable concrete stairs. Yes, there’s no catch at all if you’re considering stone steps in Kansas City from House of Rocks!
Our fire pits are sold in comprehensive kits that contain all the stone you need for your pit. This includes 50 walling pieces to build up the pit itself as well as 9 pieces of coping stone for the top rim of the pit. This stone is all-natural, hand-cut, and ready for installation.
You will need to obtain mortar to secure your fire pit, as well as fireproof cement or a steel ring for the interior of your pit. Let us know if you need help finding these products and we’ll be happy to provide you with the best products for you.
Both of our fire pit kits will create pits that are 36.5″ in internal diameter and 57″ in external diameter.
Both of our fire pits are the same style and use the same quality stone. The only difference is in the color of the rock. The Lakeland pit uses grayish stone with shades of purple and red. The Promenade pit uses various shades of gray fire pit stone. In Kansas City, House of Rocks is your preferred source for fire pits, so feel free to reach out if you’re interested in ordering either of our fire pit options!
It’s easy to get confused about the differences between these design elements, but we’re here to help with any of your questions. You have many options to choose from for any of these rock features. Just let our team know if you’re unsure which element is right for you and we’ll help you pick the perfect stone for your project.
We carry stone wall caps for pillars in 2 pre-cut sizes: 26 inch square and 30 inch square. Both options are 2.25 inches thick and have beveled pitched edges. We also stock continuous long caps that are 14 by 48 inches and 2.25 inches thick. These pieces can be snapped to size to fit the exact needs of your project.
We use a variety of Indiana limestone for our caps. Our stone wall caps in Kansas City perfectly match many of our wall stone options so you can enjoy a cohesive look for your project.
We source our rocks from all across the country to provide a variety of materials, colors, and sizes. Many of our rocks come from right here in Kansas, but we receive shipments from every region of the country. Let us know if you’re interested in the origins of any of our rocks and we can tell you where it came from, what it’s made of, and more!
For many of our products, you may be able to find cheaper alternatives—but you won’t find better alternatives. Our stone is durable, beautiful, and totally natural. Almost everything we sell comes directly from the Earth, so our products are environmentally friendly and sustainable. Cheaper alternatives, however, are usually made of concrete, resin, or plastic, meaning they aren’t eco-friendly and are susceptible to chips, cracks, and other damage. You’ll have to replace synthetic products as they break over time, but natural stone can last a lifetime with no noticeable damage.
When you buy bulk product from us, you’ll receive rocks that have been through our washing process. But it’s impossible for us to efficiently and thoroughly clean every rock that comes into our yard, so there may be some residual dust or silt on your rocks. We recommend rinsing off your rocks once they arrive at your property to clean them. After installation, rain and weather will do its job to continue cleaning your rocks and soon they will reveal their full natural beauty.
With our Find My Rock tool, it’s easy to estimate the needs for your project. You just need the dimensions of your project area and our calculator will do the rest! You can always give us a call or visit our store to discuss special project needs as well if you need help with your estimate.
Homeowners and gardeners have long debated the pros and cons of gravel vs. mulch. In the end, it comes down to upfront costs vs. long-term costs. Mulch is an inexpensive solution for your bed to manage weeds and moisture. Over time, mulch will fade, decompose, and need replacing periodically.
Landscaping gravel, meanwhile, has a higher upfront cost, but can last forever in your garden without needing replacement. Plus, gravel has almost all the same soil management and weed control benefits of mulch.
If you’re looking for a long-term solution for your garden that requires less maintenance and attention, try our gravel in Kansas City!
Many of our rocks, particularly river rock, are exposed to lots of sand and silt as it is dredged and supplied to us. We wash most rock that we sell, but it’s impossible for us to clean every rock from bulk shipments, and the rocks collect further dust in our yard. All of these factors can contribute to dirty, dull-looking rocks.
There’s no need to worry, though! Once you receive your order, we recommend hosing off your rock to remove excess dirt before installation. Some dirt may remain even after installation, but over time, your rocks will begin to reveal their natural beauty. Rain and weathering will lead to an especially renewed look for your rock.
The easiest way is to measure your square footage and determine your desired depth. 2-3” of depth is standard for most landscape applications. More depth may be required for holes and high-traffic areas. Once you have the square footage number, divide by the coverage of the gravel you want to use. For example, ¾” driveway gravel will cover approximately 100 square feet at a 2” depth per ton. Smaller gravels will cover more, while large gravels and cobbles cover less. It’s important to carefully consider your depth requirements. You can also use our handy rock calculator for a quick estimate. If you run a little short, we offer bagged gravel for most of our selections.
Yards are a measure of volume while Tons are a measure of weight. Once you know your approximate square footage and required gravel depth, it is easy to determine how many tons you need. At House of Rocks, we sell our bulk amounts of Gravel / Cobbles by the pound or ton using state-certified scales so you get exactly the amount you are paying for!
A quick way to get a rough idea of what a ton of rock looks like is to visualize a standard bathtub filled with rock. Doesn’t sound like much, does it? It’s because rock is incredibly dense.
Natural stone is a unique and beautiful material, characterized by its inherent variability. Colors and textures can differ from piece to piece, even within the same batch. Using natural stone means embracing the natural variations that occur. While we strive to provide representative photos and samples, we cannot guarantee uniformity in the colors and textures that are harvested.
We can accept most returns with the original receipt within 60 days of purchase, minus a 20% restock fee. Returns must be in condition for resale. Some items, such as thin veneer and other custom-cut stones, are nonreturnable. Palletized items that need to be picked up will incur a delivery charge in addition to the restock fee. We reserve the right to refuse returns at our discretion.
We bring in rock and stone from every region of the country to provide you with our widest selection. Different areas have different types of rock, with different aesthetic and material properties. We bring in all kinds of stone to give you different options for color, texture, size, and more.
Let us know if you’re curious about any of our stone and our expert team will be happy to talk with you about the type of rock, its history, and its usage.
We offer periodic sales and events for many of our most popular stones! Follow us on social media and keep updated on our site to learn about any upcoming specials on our rocks for sale in Kansas City.
Many of our flagstones are irregularly shaped rocks that haven’t been cut into any geometric shape, but some of our flagstone, such as Classicstone or Pennsylvania bluestone, has been cut into squares and rectangles for customers wanting a more controlled design.
We encourage our customers to visit our yard and hand-pick your own flagstone if you’re interested! Every flagstone is unique, so if you’re aiming for a specific look or want to match another feature, handpicking your stone can be the best way for you to find the stone for your project.
Flagstone can be installed on top of a crushed stone base (which we also sell) or adhered directly to existing concrete. If you need assistance with your flagstone installation, let us know and we can provide you with an experienced contractor that has worked with our flagstone in Kansas City before.
Natural stone veneer, sometimes called natural stone siding, is made from real stone that is sawn into sheets that are approximately 1.25 inches thick. This allows us to cover your home, fireplace, wine cellar, or other project with a thin sheet of real stone that weighs much less than using full stones.
Our stone veneer in Kansas City maintains much of the durability and strength of the stone, as well as the full beauty and presence of full stone.
We custom-cut our stone veneer at our store to the exact specifications needed for your project, giving you the flexibility to order the exact quantity you need. Our veneer is available in both 1.25 inch thickness as well as “full-depth” 3 to 5 inch thickness. If you’re unsure how much stone you’ll need for your project, let us know and we can help you find a reliable estimate.
You may be able to find plastic or resin-based veneer options, as well as other options for stone veneer—but be wary. Many of these competitors aren’t made with truly “natural” stone like ours. Mass-produced stone veneer may be made from molded concrete or other cheap materials, resulting in less durable veneer that is prone to chips, cracks, and water absorption. Truly natural stone veneer, like ours, is weather-resistant, durable, and more beautiful than manufactured alternatives. Even if your natural stone veneer does chip, it will only reveal more natural stone underneath!
Plus, since our stone veneer is totally natural, it is an environmentally friendly building material that is totally green. This can’t be said for most other stone veneer options, which are often made from non-recyclable plastics, resins, or concrete.
What size do you need? We sell boulders ranging from 20 pounds to 4000 pounds, which translates to about 3 to 4 feet in the largest dimension for many boulders. This depends on the rock, of course, but our boulders come in many different sizes. Visit our yard to see our boulders and pick out the perfect one for your project.
We sell boulders (and most of our landscape rock in Kansas City) by weight, so you can pay per pound for any boulder we sell.
Delivery
We’ll deliver almost any order under 14 tons locally within 100 miles of our KCK store. You’ll pay a flat-rate charge per trip, and you should get most orders within 3 to 5 business days of us receiving your order.
We can also deliver nationwide for orders up to 24 tons. Reach out to us if you’re interested in nationwide delivery and we’ll talk through your needs and coordinate the logistics of your project.
We typically drop orders at the base of your driveway if possible. When this is not an option, we’ll drop your order off on a grass or dirt area along the base of your property. For bulk orders that will be dumped, we recommend placing a tarp in advance (not provided) under our drop area. Palletized orders will follow these same rules, but our forklift will need a flat, dry area to set down your pallet.
We can dump your order anywhere accessible on your property only if you or another property owner is present to direct our driver. You must also sign a liability waiver before we enter your property. Your driver will have the final say on any dump location based on safety and accessibility.
For palletized orders, your driver will place your pallets within your property at a rate of $175 per hour (min. 30 minutes). The drop site again must be flat, level, and dry so the forklift can get to it safely. Your driver won’t do any other service other than drop off the current order.

Thin veneer and custom-cut stone cannot be returned, though we reserve the right to refuse returns at our discretion. Please see our full return terms and policies below for more information.
